Black Business Initiative (BBI)

The Black Business Initiative (BBI) was founded in 1996 by the Government of Canada and the Province of Nova Scotia to address the unique needs confronting Nova Scotia’s Black business community. Since then, our organization has become a catalyst for job creation, equitable participation, and advancing economic prosperity across Canada.

We support Black entrepreneurs every step of the way—from start-up and development to growth and expansion. Our goal is to help our clients compete both nationally and internationally within the broader business landscape.

Our Mission

To positively influence business culture in the Atlantic Provinces by promoting and assisting in the development of Black-owned businesses. We accomplish this within a cohesive framework to achieve several overall goals including:

  • Economic independence of individuals
  • Improved standards of living
  • Career options for youth
  • Pride in communities.
